Briarwood shuts out Jordan, advances to semifinals

Kimberly, AL – The Briarwood Christian Lions (12-1) are heading to the AHSAA semi-finals for the 10th time in program history after shutting out Mortimer Jordan (10-3) 15-0.

The Lions victory, at Jimmy Trotter Stadium, was Briarwood’s second win over the Blue Devils in 2016, running Briarwood’s record over to Jordan to 3-0 all time.

After going scoreless for the first 32 minutes of the contest Briarwood quarterback William Gray connected with Carson Eddy on a 30 yard touchdown strike late in the 3rd quarter.  Eddy followed the reception with a two point conversion run giving the visitors a 8 point advantage with just over a quarter to play.

Briarwood extended their dominance over the Devils late in the 4th as standout sophomore J.R. Tran-Reno powered his way into the endzone from 12 yards out.  Noah Nall’s PAT capped the game at 15-0, ending the 2015 class 5A runner-up Blue Devils’ playoff run.

Briarwood will host 5A region 5 foe Wenonah (10-2) at Lions Pride Stadium Friday night for the right to represent the north at Jordan-Hare Stadium.   Briarwood defeated the Dragons 15-14 on September 2nd.
