Benton’s Walkoff Gives Leeds Victory Over Elkmont

A walk-off walk led Leeds past Elkmont 11-10 on Saturday. The game was tied at ten with the Greenwave batting in the bottom of the seventh when Brady Garris walked Kade Benton to drive in a run.A four-run lead in the sixth inning was just enough for Leeds to hold off Elkmont for the victory. Elkmont scored five runs in the failed comeback on a, a single by Brett Parker, a groundout by Ben Yarborough, and a walk by Jim Dawson.

Elkmont took an early lead in the first inning. Jackson Cook hit into a fielder’s choice, scoring one run.

Leeds scored six runs in the sixth inning. The Greenwave big inning was driven by a single by Hayden Cofield, a double by Brent Isbell, and a single by Tucker Hines.

Jackson Cook started the game for Elkmont. He threw three and two-thirds innings, giving up zero runs, three hits, and striking out two. Alex St. John started the game for Leeds Greenwave Varsity. He tossed six innings, allowing seven runs, three hits, and striking out four.

Leeds Greenwave Varsity had 12 hits in the game. Hines, Nick Nilsen, St. John, and Cofield each collected multiple hits for Leeds Greenwave Varsity. Cofield, St. John, Nilsen, and Hines each managed two hits to lead Leeds Greenwave Varsity.

Ben Yarborough led Elkmont with three runs batted in. He went 0-for-4 on the day.
