Vestavia Lacrosse slips past Hoover in Bucs 200th game

Hoover, AL – The Vestavia Hills Rebels remained unbeaten in Alabama varsity lacrosse play while extending their winning streak over the Hoover Bucs to seven games with a 7-5 victory at Buccaneer Stadium.  

The Bucs offense started strong with a Jackson Clark goal 2 minutes and 20 seconds into the contest.  Mason Benner added the Bucs second unassisted goal a minute later putting the home team up 2-0 early in the first quarter.  

After being shut out in the first, the Rebel offense came out strong in the second quarter scoring twice within the first two minutes.  The Rebels broke the 2-2 stalemate with less than a minute to play before the break to lead the Bucs 3-2 at the half. 

Vestavia doubled their lead to 4-2 with a strike from Stein to Alexander with just over a minute off the clock in the second half.  Thirty seconds later, Alexander connected with Brooks to extend the Rebel lead to 5-2.

Zachary Rogers kept the Bucs within striking distance with an unassisted strike into the Rebel net with just under 9 minutes to play in the third period. 

The Rebels didn’t waste any time getting back on the board in the 4th as Brooks added his second goal of the night, 15 seconds into the final period, extending the VHHS lead to 6-3.  

Brooks hit pay dirt two minutes later with an assist from Alexander putting the Rebels up 7-3.  

Hoover refused to go away late in the contest with Blake Meighan and Seth Ward setting up Mason Benner with his second score pulling the Bucs back within three points with under three minutes to play. 

Bucs senior Jackson Clark capped the scoring with a strike assisted by Benner with 00:30 seconds to play as the Hoover comback fell two goals short.  

The Bucs will celebrate senior night Saturday April 15th at 6:30, hosting cross town rival Spain Park (5-2) at Buccaneer Stadium. 

Vestavia returns to action Wednesday April 19th at 7:00 PM against the Oak Mountain Eagles (5-4) at the Sicard Hollow Athletic Complex.
