Doug Gann named Homewood AD

Homewood, AL – Homewood City Schools has elevated Doug Gann to lead the systems athletic programs.  

Gann replaces former Patriots AD Kevin Tubbs who resigned in March to accept a position in the private sector.  

A 1987 Homewood High graduate, Gann has spent 25 years in education, the past 18 at his alma mater.  During his time at HHS he has served as the Patriots freshman basketball coach, varsity football receivers coach and head baseball coach.  On the diamond, Gann has lead the Patriots to a 247-145 record including eight AHSAA playoff appearances.   His 2017 baseball squad reached the second round of the postseason. 

Prior to returning to Homewood, Gann spent six years as a teacher and coach at Hoover High School.  

The Gann name is a familiar one at Homewood.  Doug’s father, legendary Patriots coach Gerald Gann, lead the HHS football program for 16 years amassing a record of 107-77-2 including three state championship game appearances.  The AHSAA Hall of Fame inductee also record more than 250 wins on the hardwood.  

Doug’s brother Lee serves as the head baseball coach at Over the Mountain rival Mountain Brook High School.  

After competing at as a three sport athlete at Homewood, Gann received a Bachelor of Science degree with a certification in physical education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  While at UAB Gann participated on the Blazers football and baseball squads.  

He received a Masters of Arts degree in Education from the University of Montevallo in 1997.
