Hoover tops Pinson Valley in battle of State Champs

Hoover, AL – The Hoover Bucs (1-0) notched a statement win in front of a nationally televised audience Saturday beating the reigning 6A state champion Pinson Valley Indians (0-1) 52-14 at the Hoover Met.  

Hoover quarterback Robby Ashford hooked up with Auburn commit George Pickens for scores twice in the first quarter, each from beyond the Indian redzone.  Putting the defending 7A state champs up early, a lead that Josh Niblett’s Bucs would not relinquish.  

After leaving the game with an injury early in the contest, George Pickens lead the Hoover receiving corps with 117 yards on seven grabs.  Senior running back Larry McCammon paced the Bucs on the ground totaling 90 yards on the ground and chipping in a 92 yard kickoff return for a score.  

Pinson Valley quarterback and Auburn University commit Bo Nix completed 19 of 36 passes for 198 yards and a score through the air.  Jay Sharp paced the Indians on the ground with 131 yards on 19 attempts.  Keyontee Johnson hauled in eight Nix passes for 85 yards and a touchdown.  

The top ranked Bucs return to action next Friday night as they play host to national powerhouse St. John’s College of Washington, DC at the Hoover Met.  Pinson Valley welcomes the Ramsay Rams to the new turf at Willie Adams Stadium.
