The 6’2, 204 lb. rising senior was thought to be an Auburn lean before pledging to the Rebels. Ranked as the nations seventh best dual-threat quarterback, Ashford completed 148 of 269 throws for 2,542 yards and 22 scores while rushing for 623 yards and seven touchdowns while leading Hoover to a birth in the 7A semi-finals in 2018.
On the diamond, he batted .313 while hitting a pair of homers and driving in 27 runs and stealing 28 bases for the Bucs as a junior.
Ashford is Ole Miss’ second in-state pickup in recent days joining former Alabama commit and Gadsden City standout De’Ricky Wright who flipped to the Rebels Saturday afternoon.
Ranked as Alabama’s top raked dual-threat QB, he choose the Rebels over Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Oregon and Texas A&M among others.
Ashford and the Bucs will kickoff 2019 against the defending state Champion Central Phenix City Red Devils in the AHSAA Kickoff Classic at Montgomery’s Cramton Bowl August 23rd.
