Bessemer City muscles past Spain Park 42-35

Hoover, AL – For the second year in a row the Bessemer City Purple Tigers (2-0) have climbed into class 7A and snagged a win over the Spain Park Jaguars (1-1). In 2018 the Tigers slipped past the Jags 16-14 on their home turf, this time around BC came out on top in a 42-35 shootout at Bob Finley Field.

Spain Park signal caller Harrison Barker finished the night with 358 yards while tossing three TD’s and completing 29 of 49 passes. Cooper Kelley was Barkers favorite target hauling in 9 grabs for 185 yards and a score. Michael Callens lead the Jags on the ground with 60 yards on 13 attempts and a touchdown.

Andrew Zow’s Tigers have the week off before kicking off 6A region 4 play against West Jefferson County rival McAdory (1-1) September 13th in Bessemer. Spain Park returns to action Friday night at region rival Vestavia Hills (1-0).
