Muscle Shoals slips past Gardendale with last second field goal

Gardendale, AL – The top ranked Muscle Shoals Trojans (12-0) advanced to round 3 of the AHSAA playoffs with a 30-27 win over the Gardendale Rockets Friday night at Driver Stadium.

Freshman placekicker Trey Stoddard split the uprights with one second remaining to punch the Trojans ticket to the 6A quarterfinals for the fifth time in the last ten seasons.

Muscle Shoals sophomore signal caller Luke Peoples completed 5 of 9 passes for 131 yards and a touchdown in relief of injured Nebraska commit Logan Smothers. Keevon Hankins lead the Trojan rushing attack with nine carries for 113 yards and a score.

Gardendale quarterback Will Crowder closed out his junior season with 240 yards through the air, completing 22 of 44 throws while rushing for 30 yards and a score on the ground. Kendale Allen lead the Rocket receiving corps with seven grabs for 120 yards while running back Latravious Sanders ran for 56 yards and a score on 18 carries.

The Rockets closed out 2019 at 8-4, highlighted by the program’s first win over 6A power Clay-Chalkville and an overtime near miss to 7A Mountain Brook.

The Trojans move on to host the Pinson Valley Indians (9-2) next Friday night at J.F. Moore Stadium.
