Oxford blanks Cullman to advance to 6A quarterfinals

Cullman, AL – The fourth ranked Oxford Yellow Jackets (11-1) punched their ticket to the 6A quarterfinals for the third consecutive season with a 35-0 shutout of the Cullman Bearcats Friday night at Woodard Stadium.

Oxford signal caller Trey Higgins finished the game with 100 yards through the air, completing 12 of 19 passes while adding 94 yards and a score on the ground. J.B. Carlisle lead the Jackets on the ground, rushing for 231 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries.

Jaylen Hughey lead the Bearcat offense rushing for 20 yards on 13 carries.

Cullman closed out Oscar Glasscock’s first season at 6-6, advancing to the second round of the postseason for the first time since 2013.

The Jackets will host region 6 foe Clay-Chalkville (10-2) in round three of the AHSAA playoffs for the third straight season. The Cougars handed the Jackets their only loss in the team’s regular season meeting. Clay-Chalkville holds a 12-4 record over the Yellow Jackets, including wins in the team’s last six meetings.
