Thompson QB commits to Auburn

Alabaster, AL – After leading the Thompson Warriors to a 7A state football championship, and walking away with title game Most Valuable Player honors, quarterback Sawyer Pate has made his college choice.

The 6’1, 205 pound signal caller pledged to Gus Malzahn’s Auburn Tigers as a preferred walk-on. He joins Thompson kicker Evan McGuire who announced his intention to walk-on with the Tigers in late January.

Pate passed for 3,125 yards, completing 229-of-306 passes and 41 touchdowns during his senior season in route to a 12-1 record and a 40-14 drubbing of defending champion Central-Phenix City in the 7A title game.

Pate capped his senior season at Thompson with a spot on the Alabama Sports Writer’s Association’s Super 12 Team, came in fifth in Mr. Football balloting and was named the ASWA’s first team All-State 7A quarterback while nabbing 7A Back of the Year honors.
