Briarwood vs Madison Academy season opener nixed

Birmingham, AL – The Briarwood Christian Lions and Madison Academy Mustangs have mutually agreed to pull the plug on their August 21st season opening matchup for precautionary reasons.

Madison Academy officials confirmed that the game was shelved due to travel issues, the size of Madison Academy’s visitor stands and locker rooms and general coronavirus concerns.

Briarwood has replaced the matchup with a game at Fort Payne. The Wildcat’s season opener against Athens was canceled when the Golden Eagles postponed all football actives until August 20th.

Madison Academy is now slated to open their season August 28th on the road at 6A Scottsboro. The Mustangs have an open date on September 25th, they have not made a decision on whither or not to pickup another game.

The private school powers have meet four times on the gridiron with the Mustangs coming away with wins in 2014 and 2015, Briarwood came out on top in 2016 and 2017 tying the series at 2-2.
