Fairfield slips past John Carroll 13-7

Birmingham, AL – The Fairfield Tigers snapped a 7-7 tie late in the 4th to come away with a 13-7 victory over the John Carroll Catholic Cavaliers Friday night at Pat Sullivan Field.  

The victory improves the Tigers to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in region play.  John Carroll slips to 3-2, 1-2 in 5A Region 5. 

Fairfield signal caller Malachi Holt-Bennett carried the load for the Tigers rushing for 147 yards, including a 60 yard first half touchdown run.  The 6’2, 182 pound senior sealed the victory with a 10 yard scoring strike late in the final frame. 

John Carroll quarterback Nicholas Sellers connected with junior receiver Quad Harrison from just inside the Tiger 10 yard line in the first quarter to give the Cavs their only points in the contest. 

Will Mara’s Cavs return to action next Friday night as they travel to Moody to take on the winless Blue Devils (0-4, 0-2).  Fairfield travels across I-20 to face the 6A Jackson-Olin Mustangs (2-2, 1-1).
