Drew Phillips named West Morgan head coach

Trinity, AL – West Morgan High School has landed their next leader on the gridiron.  The 4A program has announced that Athens offensive coordinator Drew Phillips will be the Rebels’ 18th head football coach.

This will be the Killen native’s first stint as a head coach after serving on the Athens staff for the past seven seasons, the last two as the Golden Eagles offensive coordinator.  During his time in Athens he helped guide the program to four consecutive playoff births and a region title in 2020.  Last season he was named the Alabama Football Coaches Association’s 6A Assistant Coach of the Year.

Phillips takes over for former West Morgan head coach Mikel Riggs who resigned after leading the Rebels to a 7-23 record, including a 6-15 mark in region play, over the past three seasons.

West Morgan closed out 2020 at 3-7 with wins over region rivals Priceville and Wilson and a forfeit victory over the Rogers Pirates.
