AHSAA 2A Baseball Championship | Westbrook Christian wins first state baseball title

Montgomery, AL – Westbrook Christian School posted six runs in the top of the fifth inning Tuesday night in deciding game three of the AHSAA Class 2A State Baseball Championship Series and rolled to an 11-1 win over three-time defending champion G.W. Long to claim the Warriors’ first state baseball title.

Senior Samuel Dutton drove in two runs in the big inning and 2A State Championship Series MVP Will Noles had a sacrifice fly to drive in another run while winning pitcher Brodie Self doubled in another run to highlight the rally.

Noles, who pitched a 5-0 shutout in game one of the series, finished with a triple and two RBIs in the final game contest.

Self (3-2) hurled a complete-game three-hitter with no walks and six strikeouts to get the game three win.  He also added two doubles and three RBIs.

Westbrook Christian (29-9), coached by Matt Kennedy, had 12 hits in the finals and 11 RBIs.  Carson Dunlap (2-3) started and took the loss for the 23-14 Rebels. Jackson Dasinger had a single and RBI and Trevor Morris, who had an outstanding series as Long’s shortstop, also had a single and two stolen bases.

G.W. Long, which holds the AHSAA state record with 16 state baseball titles including the previous three 2A crowns in 2017, 2018 and 2019, forced game three with an 8-2 win in game two Tuesday.

The first games of each AHSAA State Baseball Championship Series is set to be played at Paterson Field and will be live-streamed over the NFHS Network. The final games of each series moves to Riverwalk Stadium and are also being live-streamed by the NFHS Network and are being telecast live over AHSAA TV Network by WOTM TV.
