AHSAA 7A Baseball Championship | Auburn takes down Hoover 9-2 in game one

Montgomery, AL – Auburn High School scored seven runs in the first three innings and held on to beat the Hoover Bucs 9-2 Wednesday in Game 1 of the AHSAA Class 7A State Baseball Championship Series played at Paterson Field. Game 2 and 3, if needed, will be played Thursday beginning at 10 a.m., at Riverwalk Stadium.

Winning pitcher Brady Fuller pitched five innings, allowed three hits, two runs and struck out six to get the win.  Caleb Sanders and Tanner Phillips also hurled one scoreless inning apiece in relief.

Will Turner, the center fielder and lead-off hitter for Coach Matt Cimo’s Tigers (35-6), had a double and three RBIs. Connor Cosby had two hits and two RBIs while Henry Allen had one hit and two RBIs for the Tigers.

Hoover (26-21) got a double and RBI from William Steele, Cade Carr knocked in the other Hoover run.

Brewer Smith started and got the loss for the Bucs.

The AHSAA TV Network, produced by WOTM TV, is televising the remaining games of the series live over the WOTM network of cable stations and is also being live-streamed over the NFHS Network.

The  Class 3A championship series between Phil Campbell and Bayside Academy plays game one of its series at 6 p.m., at Paterson Field Thursday night. The 3A series concludes Friday at Riverwalk beginning with game two at 10 a.m.
