Arab marches past Pell City 17-6

Arab, AL – The Arab Arabian Knights (6-1, 4-0) took a big step toward their first region title since 1993 with a 17-6 victory over the Pell City Panthers (1-5, 0-3) Friday night at the SportsPlex.  

The win was the first time the Knights’ have knocked off the Panthers on the gridiron since 1927.  Pell City forfeited their matchup with Arab in 2020.

After a scoreless first period the Knights got on the board midway thought the second quarter with a special teams score, forcing a safety on a Pell City punt attempt deep in Arab territory.  They added to their lead eight plays later as standout quarterback Ed Johnson connected with his twin brother Wes for a 19 yard scoring strike.  

The Knights carried a 9-0 lead late into the fourth quarter until Ed Johnson called his own number, bolting into the endzone for an eight yard score to put the game on ice.

 

Pell City got their only points of the night as Carlos Herring snagged a Baylor Smith touchdown pass with just over a minute remaining in the contest.  

Arab senior quarterback Ed Johnson finished the night with 94 yards through the air and 125 on the ground while passing for a score and rushing for another.

The Arabian Knights can clinch the Class 6A Region 7 title Friday night when they welcome traditional power Oxford (3-3, 2-1) to Brindlee Mountain.
