Arab blanks Springville 27-0

Arab, AL – The Arab Arabian Knights (7-2, 5-1) officially secured homefield advantage in the first round of the AHSAA Class 6A playoffs with a 27-0 shutout over the Springville Tigers (4-5, 2-4) Friday night on Brindlee Mountain. 

The Knights win, coupled with the Oxford Yellow Jackets 41-13 victory over Fort Payne, gives Arab the two seed in Region 7.  Lee Ozmint’s squad is currently projected to host either the Homewood Patriots (5-4, 3-3) or Chelsea Hornets (4-5, 3-3) in the first round postseason November 5th.

Arab jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter as standout signal caller Ed Johnson connected with his twin brother Wes for a 43 yard score followed by an Ed Johnson rushing score from inside the Springville five yard line.  

The Knights extended their lead on their first play of the second half as Drake Franklin bolted 65 yards into the endzone.  Arab placekicker Gavin Currier closed things out with a pair of field goals of 31 and 21 yards to seal the shutout.  

Ed Johnson finished the night with 144 yards and a score through the air, completing 8-of-17 passes.  Wes Johnson snagged six receptions for 132 yards and a touchdown while Franklin rushed for 93 yards and score on nine attempts.  

Arab closes out the regular season next week on the road at Marshall County rival Boaz (6-3, 4,2).  Springville will cap 2021 at home against the 5-4 Moody Blue Devils.
