Gardendale scorches Mortimer Jordan 40-13 in rivalry renewal

Gardendale, AL – The Gardendale Rockets improved to 7-2, 4-2 in Class 6A, Region 6 play, with a 40-13 victory over Mortimer Jordan (2-7, 1-5) Friday night at Driver Stadium.

The contest renewed the North Jefferson rivalry between the neighboring programs which had been on a 10 year hiatus.   Gardendale has come out on top in their last six meetings with the Blue Devils.  The Rockets now own a 29-7 all-time advantage in the series that was first played in 1965.

Gardendale is currently projected as the four seed in 6A Region 6 and will likely travel to 2nd ranked and undefeated Hartselle in the first round of the AHSAA postseason which will kick off November 6th.

The visiting Blue Devils lit up the Driver Stadium scoreboard early, as Cameron Scott returned the opening kick 86 yards for a score before the Rockets came to life, putting up 40 straight points.

Standout Rockets running back L.T. Sanders shined, rushing for 233 yards on 16 attempts including touchdown runs of 68 and nine yards.  First year starting quarterback Tyler Nelson posted a pair of rushing scores of his own, one from 50 yards out to finish the night with 106 yards on the ground.
