Shawn Raney steps down as Spain Park head football coach

Hoover, AL – After nine seasons at at the helm of the Spain Park High School football program head coach Shawn Raney has announced his resignation.  

Raney exits Spain Park as the winningest and longest tenured head football coach in program history.  Over nine seasons the Erick, Oklahoma native compiled a 54-34 record including a 3-4 mark in postseason play, a pair of region crowns and a trip to the 2015 AHSAA Class 7A title game.  

“Coach Raney has done an excellent job serving SPHS students and the community, and the administration would like to thank Coach Raney for his dedication to the school and the football program,” the Hoover City School system released in a statement. “The school wishes him success in his future endeavors. A search for Coach Raney’s replacement will take place in the near future.”

The Jaguars have suffered through four consecutive loosing seasons, culminating in a 2-8 mark in 2021.

Before taking over at Spain Park, Raney spent time as an assistant at Hoover and Oak Mountain high schools.
