Gardendale’s L.T. Sanders runs into the record books

Gardendale, AL – Standout Gardendale running back L.T. Sanders staked his claim to the Rocket record books in GHS’ second round playoff win over the Homewood Patriots Friday night.

After rolling for 298 yards and three touchdowns in the Rockets 35-27 playoff win, Sanders passed Barry Harrison as the program’s all-time leading rusher.  He also shattered former Gardendale star and current Philadelphia Eagles running back Jordan Howard’s single game rushing record, despite being sidelined with an injury for a portion of the second half.

If that wasn’t enough, Sanders also became the only back in Rockets history to surpass 4,000 career rushing yards.

The 5’9, 180 pound speedster holds offers from the University of South Florida, Arkansas State, UNC-Charlotte, Georgia Southern, Liberty, Marshall, Middle Tennessee State, New Mexico, Western Kentucky and UT-Martin.  The former Georgia Southern commit opened up his recruitment following the Rockets’ second round victory.

Sanders and the 10-2 Rockets’ season continues Friday night, on the road,  with a quarterfinal rematch with the No. 1 ranked and undefeated Clay-Chalkville Cougars in the AHSAA Class 6A quarterfinals.
