Hewitt-Trussville’s Riley Quick named 2022 Mr. Baseball

Birmingham, AL – Hewitt-Trussville pitcher Riley Quick was named 2022’s Mr. Baseball Sunday by the Alabama Sports Writers Association.

The Alabama Crimson Tide signee came out on top of pitchers Elliott Bray (Hartselle) and Drew Nelson (Pike Liberal Arts), both Auburn signees, to secure the award.

The right handed hurler, who went 13-1 with a 0.92 ERA leading the Huskies to the 2022 AHSAA Class 7A championship series, is the first Hewitt-Trussville player to earn the coveted honor.

Quick was also named the ASWA’s Class 7A Pitcher of the Year for the second consecutive season.  During his senior campaign he pitched nine complete games, throwing six shutouts and striking out 130 batters against 37 walks.

The 6-foot-6, 225 pound pitcher brought home Class 7A player of the year honors and was named to the ASWA’s Super All-State Team comprised of standouts regardless of position or classification.  Joining Quick on the Super All-State squad were Elliott Bray (Hartselle), Drew Nelson (Pike Liberal Arts), Alex Wade (Madison Academy), Zane Strokes (Mobile Christian), Jack Hayes (Piedmont), Coleman Mizell (Hartselle), Josh Bowerman (Mars Hill Bible), Mason Swinney (Phil Campbell) and John Malone (Bayshore Christian).

Quick was also one the state’s top offensive line prospects in the class of 2022 but chose the diamond over a career on the gridiron.

Hewitt-Trussville’s Kenleigh Cahalan brought home the Miss Softball award, marking the first time players from the same school have earned the both of the ASWA’s top honors in the same season.
