Brandon Wilcox takes over as Escambia Academy head football coach

Atmore, AL – Former W.S. Neal head coach Brandon Wilcox has officially been named the Escambia Academy Cougars 18th leader on the gridiron.

Wilcox, who will also serve as the school’s athletic director, takes over for Hugh Fountain who was announced as Wilcox’s successor at W.S. Neal on Tuesday.  

The T.R. Miller alum and Brewton native posted a 0-10 record in 2021 to cap his lone season at the helm of the W.S. Neal program.

Prior to accepting the W.S. Neal job, Wilcox served for one season as the offensive coordinator at Center Point.  Earlier in his career he lead the Marion County Red Raiders for two seasons (2014-2015) posting a 10-14 record highlighted by a trip to the AHSAA Class 1A semifinals in his first season.  From 2016-2019 he compiled a 28-16 mark and three postseason berths at the helm of the Montevallo Bulldogs football program. 

Wilcox’s career head coaching record currently stands at 38-40, 21-21 in region play, with four playoff appearances over seven seasons. 

Escambia Academy has won a pair of AISA state titles and have reached the Class AA championship game in each of the last six seasons.
