Bob Jones sprinter Jordan Urrutia Shines in Season-opening Meet

Saraland’s Morgan Davis Excels in Two Early Season Track Meets

Montgomery, AL – Saraland High School senior Morgan Davis, who dominated in the 2023 AHSAA indoor track season, is off to a strong start in her final season of AHSAA outdoor track and field.

Davis, who is headed to the University of Kentucky for college track, won the long jump and high jump at the Battle of the Bay No. 1 outdoor meet in Daphne on March 2. She had a winning leap of 19 feet, 3¾ inches in the long jump and cleared 5 feet, 4 inches in the high jump. Then, at the Mary Montgomery Vikings Invitational in Semmes at March 4, she clocked 11.98 seconds in the 100 meters and 57.70 in the 400 meters to win both e vents. For her performance, Davis headlines this week’s AHSAA Track and Field Spotlight. Davis also excelled during the indoor season, winning the Class 6A 60-meter dash and long jump individual titles and running on the Spartans’ 6A championship 4×200-meter relay team as Saraland finished fifth as a team.

On the boys’ side, Bob Jones High School’s Jordan Urrutia joins Davis in the AHSAA Track and Field Spotlight. The junior won the 100, 200 and 400-meter dash events at the Bob Jones Red Coat Invitational in Madison last weekend. He clocked 10.77 seconds in the 100 meters and 21.86 in the 200 meters. He also won the 400-meter dash in 49.20 seconds, edging teammate Jordan Morrison, who was a close second at 49.45 seconds.

Urrutia’s 100-meter time is tied for the state’s best so far this season and his 200-meter time ranks No. 1.

JAZIYA WATKINS, ENTERPRISE: Clocked 11.97 seconds in the 100-meter dash at the Enterprise Invite No. 2.

SHONEDRA RICHARDSON, DEMOPOLIS: Clocked 12.05 seconds in the 100-meter dash and long jumped 19 feet, 6¾ inches to win both events at the Paul W. Bryant Invitational in Tuscaloosa.

ZARIA PARKER, JAMES CLEMENS: Finished the 100 in 12.09 seconds to win the event at the Bob Jones Redcoat Invitational in Madison.

PRESLEIGH MONTALVO, SATSUMA: Ran 12.16 seconds in the 100 at the MGM Invitational in Semmes.

ASPEN ARROWSMITH, LEXINGTON: Won the javelin event with a throw of 152 feet, 1 inch at the 17th annual Winfield Ice Breaker.

TORI MACK, HEWITT-TRUSSVILLE: Won the individual title in the 100-meter hurdles at the Husky March Classic in Trussville with a time of 14.70 seconds.

MADISYN HAWKINS, HEWITT-TRUSSVILLE: Won the discus with a throw of 120 feet, 5 inches at the Husky March Classic in Trussville.

BRIANNA BECKHAM, HEWITT-TRUSSVILLE: Clocked 12.24 seconds to win the 100-meter dash at the Husky March Classic in Trussville and won the 200 meters in 24.98.

EMILY WOLF, FOLEY: Captured the discus competition at the Battle of the Bay No. 1 in Daphne with a throw of 120 feet, 5 inches.

ABBY MERNER, AUBURN: Clocked 5:07.15 to win the 1,600 meters at the Husky March Classic in Trussville. Teammate Sarah Tole was second crossing the finish line at 5:11.23, and Mountain Brook’s Virginia Averyt was third at 5:13.72.

JANIE FORD, ST. PAUL’S EPISCOPAL: Won the 300-meter hurdles in 46.18 seconds and the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 6 inches at the UMS-Wright Tri-Meet in Mobile.

ANNA ADAMS, McGILL-TOOLEN CATHOLIC: Won the 1,600-meter run at the UMS-Wright Tri-Meet in Mobile with a time of 5:10.61.

HARLEY McNEAL, NORTHRIDGE: Clocked 24.95 seconds to win the 200 meters ats the Northridge Black and Blue Invitational.

GABRIELLE WASHINGTON, HOOVER: Won the 400-meter dash at the Husky March Classic at Trussville with a time of 56.20 seconds. Teammate McKenzie Blackledge was second in 57.38.

REAGAN RILEY, MOUNTAIN BROOK: Won the 800 meters with a time of 2:15.66 at the Husky March Classic in Trussville, edging teammate Lucy Benton, who clocked 2:15.93.

ABBY FERLISE, McGILL-TOOLEN CATHOLIC: Won the 800 meters with a time of 2:17.50 at the UMS-Wright Tri-Meet in Mobile.

ABBY MERNER, AUBURN: Clocked 5:07.15 to win the 1,600 meters at the Husky March Classic in Trussville.

KATIE KEUR, OXFORD: Won the 3,200-meter turn at the 5th Annual Yellow Jacket Invitational clocking 11:13.33.

JADYN BONDS, GUNTERSVILLE: Cleared 5 feet, 4 inches to win the high jump at the Albertville Varsity Meet No. 1.

DAISY LUNA & McKENZIE BLACKLEGE, HOOVER: The Bucs’ teammates clocked 57.38 to tie for the best time in the 400 meters at the Husky March Classic in Trussville.

FARRAH HAWKINS, SPRINGVILLE: Triple-jumped 38 feet, 5 inches at the Oak Mountain Eagle Relays.

BROOKE WALDEN, HOMEWOOD: Cleared 12 feet, 1 inch to win the pole vault title at the Five Team Battle Royal at Mountain Brook.

HANNAH McCONNELL, UMS-WRIGHT: Cleared 11 feet, 6 inches to tie for the pole vault title with teammate Madeline McMurphy at the UMS-Wright Tri-Meet in Mobile.

MADELINE McMURPHY, UMS-WRIGHT: Tied for the pole vault win at UMS-Wright Tri-Meet in Mobile, clearing 11 feet, 6 inches.

LYDIA RENO, GULF SHORES: Won the shot put at the Enterprise Invite No. 1 with a throw of 38 feet, 5½ inches.

SARAH AMOS, ENTERPRISE: Threw the shot put 37 feet, 10 inches at the Enterprise Invite No. 2.

XARIYAH HATCHETT, PAUL W. BRYANT: Won the triple jump with a leap of 37 feet, 4¼ inches at the Paul W. Bryant Invitational in Tuscaloosa.

JADLYN DEBARDLABON, CHELSEA: Won the long jump at the Yellow Jacket Invitational in Oxford with a leap of 17 feet, 11 inches.

BRADLEY FRANKLIN, THOMPSON: Won the 110-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles at the Husky March Classic in Trussville, clocking 14.14 seconds and 38.14, respectively, in the events.
RYAN WILLIAMS SARALAND: Won the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dashes at the Battle of the Bay No. 1 in Daphne. He clocked 10.93 seconds in the 100 meters, 21.99 seconds in  the 200 meters and 48.61 seconds in the 400 meters.

TJ AUTREY, AUBURN: Cleared 6 feet, 8 inches to win the high jump at the Auburn Early Bird meet.

ARTHUR CHITTY, UMS-WRIGHT: Won the high jump by clearing 6 feet, 8 inches at the UMS-Wright Tri-Meet in Mobile.

LAWRENCE TAYLOR, HUNTSVILLE: Clocked 10.77 seconds in the 100 meters at the Bob Jones Red Coat Invitational in Madison.

JAYDEN LEWIS, ANNISTON: Won the 100 meters at the Yellow Jacket Invitational in Oxford with a time of 10.83 seconds.

DANIEL FIGUEROA, HOLLY POND: Clocked 15.92 seconds to win the ambulatory 100-meter title at the Cold Springs Invitational.

KAM HALL, TUSCALOOSA COUNTY: Clocked 48.49 seconds in the 400 meters at the Northridge Black and Blue Invitational in Tuscaloosa.

MAXWELL HARDIN, AUBURN HIGH: Clocked 4:15.36 to win the 1,600 meters at the Husky March Classic in Trussville and 1:56.47 to win the 800 meters.

ERIC MOORE, HUNTSVILLE: Won the 1,600 meters at the Bob Jones Red Coat Invitational in Madison with a time of 4:18.02.

ETHAN EDGEWORTH, COLD SPRINGS: Won the 3,200-meter run at the Husky March Classic in Trussville with a time of 9:23.18.

LUKE ALVERSON, JAMES CLEMENS: Won the 3,200-meter run at the Bob Jones Red Coat Invitational in Madison with a time of 9:38.43, edging teammate Cole Robinson (9:38.74) at the finish line.

ANTHONY EAGER, McGILL-TOOLEN  CATHOLIC: Opened the season with a triple jump of 48 feet, 6 inches at the Goula Invitational in Pascagoula, Miss.

MATTHEW COLEMAN, HALEYVILLE: Won the javelin with a heave of 192 feet at the 17th Annual Winfield Ice Breaker.

TYLER McKINNELL, AUBURN: Took the javelin event title with a throw of 175 feet, 3 inches at the Husky March Classic in Trussville.

JAY AVERY, HOOVER: Won the long jump at the Husky March Classic in Trussville with a leap of 23 feet, 8¾ inches.

SHEMAR WELCH, McGILL-TOOLEN: Won the long jump competition at the UMS-Wright Tri-Meet in Mobile with a leap of 21 feet, 7 inches.

CONNOR OWENS, SAINT JAMES: Beat the discus competition at the Auburn Early Bird with a throw of 163 feet, 2 inches.

DJ CARTER, HEWITT-TRUSSVILLE: Won the shot put with a throw of 52 feet, 1 1inches at the Husky March Classic in Trussville.
