Thompson’s Nguyen and Homewood’s Myers Selected to Represent Alabama at the National Student Leadership Summit

Montgomery, AL – Rising seniors Ava Nguyen of Thompson High School and Will Myers of Homewood High School have been selected to represent the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) at the ninth National Student Leadership Summit (NSLS) in Indianapolis, scheduled for July 22-25. Hosted annually by the NFHS, the summit brings together student leaders from across the nation to discuss crucial topics, including mental health, inclusion, and communication.

Nguyen and Myers were chosen from the AHSAA Student Leadership Council, a 32-member board comprising 16 juniors and 16 seniors. These members are selected from nominations submitted by the eight districts of the AHSAA. The Council, a project of the Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association (AHSADCA) and AHSAA, meets annually in Montgomery.

“This is a notable opportunity for these outstanding young student leaders,” said AHSAA Executive Director Alvin Briggs. “They will interact with other student leaders from across the nation and return to our state to share their experiences.”

Florence High School principal Kevin Wieseman will accompany Nguyen and Myers to the summit. Over 150 high school sports and activities participants from across the U.S. and several other countries are expected to attend.
