Markus Cook Steps Down As Vigor Head Football Coach

Prichard, AL – Markus Cook is out after two seasons at the helm of the Vigor Wolves football program.

A 2013 Vigor graduate, Cook led the Wolves to a 5-4 record in his first season and improved to a 7-3 mark last season. However, a forfeit loss against UMS-Wright prevented a postseason berth in 2023.

The Prichard native was an All-American center at Jackson State and holds a Master’s degree from The University of West Alabama.

Cook began his coaching career at Vigor in 2017, serving as the run-game coordinator and offensive line coach. He was the co-offensive coordinator when the Wolves claimed the Class 4A state title in 2021.

He took over as interim coach when John McKenzie was placed on administrative leave and was later named the Wolves’ 11th full-time head football coach.

Cook’s head coaching record currently stands at 12-7, with a 9-7 mark in region play over two seasons.

The Wolves will kick-off their 2024 campaign, on the road, against rival Blount on August 23rd.
