2024 AHSAA All-Star Sports Week | North Girls Dominate All-Star Hoops Classic with 87-46 Victory

Montgomery, AL – Good Hope rising senior guard, Ava McSwain, displayed her outstanding 3-point shooting skills during the Raiders’ Class 4A state championship run last winter. Her prowess was on full display once again during the AHSAA North-South girls’ all-star basketball game at the Cramton Bowl MultiPlex on Tuesday night.

McSwain excelled in the first half, sinking 5-of-6 shots, including a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc, to score 13 points and help the North secure a 37-24 lead. She continued her impressive performance in the second half, finishing with a game-high 16 points and earning North team MVP honors. The North team triumphed with an 87-46 win, improving their series record to 24-3.

The North team, coached by Justin Bowen of Southside and Hartselle’s Amber Deline, demonstrated excellent teamwork that was too much for the South to handle. They racked up 19 assists, 15 steals, nine blocked shots, and 50 rebounds. The team also shot 50% from the field (32-of-64), made 13-of-15 free throws, and sank 10 3-pointers. McSwain finished 4-for-4 from the 3-point line and 6-of-8 overall from the field.

Chelsea’s Haley Trotter contributed 12 points, while Vestavia Hills’ Sarah Gordon, Hewitt-Trussville’s Ashlyn Howard, and Sulligent’s Ella Wheeler each added eight points. Shila Marks of Lauderdale County chipped in seven points. Keyarria Stokes of Pleasant Grove led the North with seven rebounds, and Brett Douglas of Class 6A state champion Hazel Green pulled down six rebounds and blocked four shots. Spring Garden’s Ace Austin, the 2024 Miss Basketball, had a game-high four assists and five points, while Trotter also recorded three steals.

Park Crossing’s Siniya Jackson was a standout for the South squad. She scored nine points by halftime and grabbed four steals early in the second half, disrupting the North’s transition game. Jackson earned South MVP honors by finishing with a team-high 14 points and four steals. Auburn’s Brooke Hallman and Maddie Smith of Trinity Presbyterian added eight points each.

With this victory, the North has now won six consecutive games, with their last loss occurring in 2016 when the South won 57-53.
