2024 AHSAA All-Star Sports Week | North-South Tennis Competition Halted Due to Weather

Montgomery, AL – The North-South boys’ and girls’ all-star tennis competition faced an unexpected interruption on Tuesday afternoon at Lagoon Park. Despite completing three doubles matches in both the girls’ and boys’ categories, the event had to be called off before the six scheduled singles matches could take place. Consequently, no overall winners were declared in either division.

Completed Doubles Matches

Girls’ Doubles
  • South: Gabby Barrera (Montgomery Academy) and Sarah Ladd (UMS-Wright) defeated Kenley Outzen and Madison Standifer (both from Vestavia Hills) with scores of 6-2, 4-6, 10-7.
  • North: Ann Royal Goodson and Mary Jackson Darnall (both from Mountain Brook) triumphed over Rhea Mostellar and Kate Huddle (both from UMS-Wright) with a scoreline of 6-2, 6-3.
  • North: Riley Edwards (Hewitt-Trussville) and Jayden Johnson (Sardis) won against Kenza Bilbeisi (Houston Academy) and Owen Thompson (Providence Christian) with scores of 6-2, 6-1.
Boys’ Doubles
  • South: Montgomery Beall (Bayside Academy) and John Alford (Montgomery Academy) beat Kyle McEwen (Oxford) and James Giles (Ramsay) 6-0, 6-1.
  • South: James Treadwell (Trinity) and Jason Mun (Houston Academy) overcame Tommy Rowan (Northridge) and Winston James (Homewood) 6-1, 2-6, 10-4.
  • North: Palmer Hicks (Westminster-OM) and Colin Thompson (Covenant Christian) defeated Tripp Rascoe (Enterprise) and Grant Speagle (Trinity) with scores of 2-6, 6-1, 14-12.

Upcoming North-South All-Star Events

  • Girls’ and Boys’ Soccer will take place at the Emory Folmar Soccer Complex on Wednesday, with the girls’ match starting at 5 p.m.
  • Softball Doubleheader begins at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at Lagoon Park.
  • Volleyball Match concludes the All-Star Week’s competitions on Thursday at 2 p.m. at the MultiPlex.

About the All-Star Sports Week

The 28th All-Star Sports Week is a celebration featuring 13 North-South sports competitions and is highlighted by the AHSAA Summer Conference Coaching School. This conference, which began Tuesday morning at the Montgomery Renaissance Hotel and Convention Center, welcomes over 7,000 coaches, teachers, administrators, and all-stars. It is managed by the Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association (AHSADCA), the coaches’ wing of the AHSAA.

All all-star competitions are being produced for the NFHS Network and AHSAA TV Network by the Central-Phenix City School Broadcast Program.
