T.R. Miller Becomes Alabama Winningest High School Football Program With Win Over Reeltown
MONTGOMERY, AL – T.R. Miller High School’s Myles Johnson returned from injury with a stellar performance, rushing for 110 yards on 15 carries and scoring twice in the Tigers’ 28-7 victory over Reeltown. This triumph in the 19th annual AHSAA Kickoff Classic at Cramton Bowl marked T.R. Miller’s 727th win, making them Alabama’s all-time winningest high school football team.
Johnson’s touchdowns, including a decisive 47-yard run, were crucial as T.R. Miller improved to 727-335-21 since its football debut in 1926. The Tigers had been tied with Oneonta, who play Locust Fork in their season opener on Friday.
In addition to his contributions on offense, Johnson excelled defensively with eight tackles. T.R. Miller’s quarterback, Nathan Commander, started strong with a 29-yard pass to Eli Hubbert and added a 12-yard rushing touchdown, capping an impressive 75-yard opening drive.

Reeltown responded with a scoring drive of their own, as quarterback Ja-markius Smith connected with Traylen Roberts for a touchdown. However, T.R. Miller’s defense held firm, forcing a turn of possession.
Defensive play dominated much of the first half, with Reeltown’s Harrison Renfroe delivering a key sack that pushed the Tigers back. However, a mishandled punt by Reeltown soon after allowed T.R. Miller to regain control and maintain possession until halftime.
The second half saw a pivotal moment when Reeltown fumbled the opening kickoff, allowing T.R. Miller’s Quay McCants to recover the ball. Johnson capitalized with a 1-yard touchdown. A subsequent defensive stop set up another Commander-to-Bell touchdown pass, extending the Tigers’ lead to 21-7.

In the game’s closing moments, Reeltown’s Martin broke free for a 95-yard run but was brought back due to a holding infraction. The Rebels attempted a late rally with Smith’s passing but fell short. Johnson sealed the win with a 46-yard touchdown run.
Statistically, Johnson led all rushers, while Commander completed 7-of-14 passes for 120 yards. Reeltown’s Smith threw for 127 yards, with Martin contributing significantly in rushing, receiving, and returns.
T.R. Miller’s defense was anchored by Marquise English and Kavarious Bell, while Renfroe and Demetrius Brown shone for Reeltown. The game ended with Reeltown amassing 292 yards compared to T.R. Miller’s 227.
