Chelsea Rolls Past Defending Class 3A State Champion Mobile Christian in Season Opener
Chelsea, AL – The Chelsea Hornets secured a decisive 24-3 victory over reigning Class 3A state champion Mobile Christian, setting a tone for the Hornets first season back in Class 6A. The excitement began early with Mobile Christian’s Carter Lewis booting a 49-yard field goal, giving the visitors from the Gulf Coast an early advantage. However, the momentum quickly shifted as Chelsea began to assert their dominance. Briston Hardy dashed into the end zone with a 6-yard score, swiftly followed by Caleb Durbin, who powered through the Leopard line for a 1-yard touchdown. As the first half unfolded, Aiden Hughes pulled down an impressive 48-yard touchdown catch from quarterback Sam Parrish, solidifying a commanding 21-3 lead at the break.
The second half saw Luke Miller adding to Chelsea’s advantage, splitting the uprights from 39 yards out. For Charlie Lawson, the first year head coach at Mobile Christian, it was a challenging debut, with Chelsea’s relentless performance dampening any hopes of taking a season opening victory back to the bay.
Looking forward, Chelsea will welcome the Wetumpka Indians (1-0) to Shelby County next Friday night. Mobile Christian will take the week off before facing the Satsuma Gators (1-0) at home on September 6.
