Montgomery Catholic Downs St. James 42-14

MONTGOMERY, AL – Montgomery Catholic quarterback, J.J. Williams, put on a stellar performance to lead the 4th ranked Knights to a season opening 42-14 victory over cross-town rival St. James. Williams threw three touchdown passes and also ran for another score.

Williams completed 15-of-20 passes for 214 yards. Meanwhile, Josh Harriell bolstered the Knight offense with an impressive 155 rushing yards and two touchdowns on just 13 carries. The defending Class 4A state champions showcased their strong offensive lineup with Michael Sheffield catching nine passes for 134 yards and a touchdown. BJ Bedgood also made a significant impact with five receptions for 77 yards and a pair of scores.

Defensively, Jo Pierce was a powerhouse, making seven tackles, including two for loss, and intercepting two passes. Miles Khatri contributed with eight tackles, three for loss, and an interception, while Rickie Williams added six tackles and broke up three passes.

With this victory, Montgomery Catholic (1-0) will welcome St. Clair County to the Capital City next week, while St. James (0-1) will travel down Vaughn Road to take on Montgomery Academy.
