Hoover Claims 17-14 Season Opening Victory in South Florida
DAVIE, FL – In a thrilling matchup at the Broward County National Football Showcase in south Florida, the Hoover Bucs clinched a 17-14 win over the sunshine state’s Western High School. This matchup was notable for being the first under new Hoover head coach Chip English, following the resignation of former Bucs head coach Drew Gilmer.
The pivotal moment came late in the fourth quarter when James Bryant split the upright from 38 yards out, sealing the victory with just 23 ticks remaining in the contest. Prior to Bryant’s game winning boot, the Bucs had leveled the score at 14 all thanks to a spectacular 99-yard kickoff return by JJ Moultrie. Western had initially taken a 14-7 lead, but Moultrie’s effort, which began at the 1-yard line, followed by Bryant’s successful PAT, put the game on ice for the visitors.
Earlier, Moultrie had showcased his defensive prowess by blocking a Western’s extra point, adding to his crucial role in the game. After catching the kickoff at the 1, he navigated through defenders and surged down the left sideline to score with 9 minutes and 28 seconds left in the game.
