Helena Holds On For 29-28 Win Over McAdory
McCALLA, AL – In a nail-biting contest Friday night in western Jefferson County, Helena’s Torrey Ward hauled in a 42-yard touchdown pass from Nate Ferguson with only 2:14 remaining put the visitors up 29-28. A missed 39 yard Yellow Jackets field goal attempt sealed the victory for head coach Richie Busby’s Huskies.
Helena, (1-0) initially lagged behind with a 13-0 deficit but narrowed the gap to 13-7 before entering a back-and-forth battle in the second half.
Helena claimed a 14-13 lead with just 7:55 remaining in the third quarter. McAdory (1-1) briefly regained control, pulling ahead 19-14, only to see Helena strike back with a touchdown, bringing the score to 22-19. McAdory answered with another score, taking a 25-22 lead and setting the stage for a tense final three minutes.
The Husky offense was powered by Jeremy Spratling, who amassed 126 yards on 26 carries, scoring two touchdowns and catching a 10-yard pass. Ferguson completed 6-of- 11 passes for 95 yards and a score, adding 10 rushing yards across five carries. Dom Santiago contributed with 36 yards on nine carries, scoring once and adding a two-point conversion. Ward made three receptions, totaling 64 yards, including the decisive touchdown.
McAdory’s Justin Patton delivered a strong performance, completing 22-of-38 passes for 264 yards and a touchdown. Kawann Johnson added 42 yards and two scores on 14 carries, while Derrion Davis contributed 46 yards on 14 carries. Trenton Charles snagged nine receptions for 84 yards and a touchdown, with Carter Feagin adding five receptions for 70 yards.
Looking ahead, Helena will travel to Chilton County (1-1) while McAdory welcomes the 2-0 Norhridge Rams to McCalla next Friday night.
