Scottsboro’s Jake Jones Shines in Thrilling Victory Over Boaz

SCOTTSBORO, AL – Senior quarterback Jake Jones was the standout performer for No. 6 Scottsboro, amassing 361 total yards and scoring four touchdowns to lead the Wildcats to a thrilling victory over visiting Boaz in a Class 5A, Region 8 showdown Friday night at Pat Trammell Stadium. The game was an offensive spectacle, with both teams combining for 894 total yards—Scottsboro contributing 455 to Boaz’s, 439.

Jones showcased his dual-threat capabilities, rushing 25 times for 226 yards and three touchdowns. He also demonstrated precision in the air, completing 12-of-15 passes for 135 yards, alongside another touchdown.

Scottsboro exhibited offensive efficiency by successfully scoring on every drive except their final one, where they chose to run down the clock.

Boaz’s quarterback, Tyler Pierce, set a new school record with 315 passing yards and four touchdowns, completing 14-of-21 throws.

The game’s pivotal defensive play occurred with Scottsboro up 35-28, when Wildcat Ty Fowler intercepted Pierce. This turnover, coupled with a penalty, positioned Scottsboro at Boaz’s 46-yard line, setting up a scoring drive that Jones capped with a 3-yard touchdown run, extending the lead with 11 minutes left.

The Pirates narrowed the gap to 42-35 on their next drive, thanks to a 10-yard touchdown pass from Pierce to Jakai Hudgins with under five minutes remaining.

Both teams traded touchdowns from the outset. Jones initiated Scottsboro’s scoring with a 60-yard sprint to complete a five-play drive. Boaz immediately responded with a 12-yard touchdown pass to Ty Sullivan. Scottsboro’s Jacobi Edmondson then scored on a 1-yard run, but Boaz swiftly tied it with Pierce’s 78-yard pass to Hudgins.

Scottsboro (3-0) regained the lead when Jones connected with Cohen Thompson for a 23-yard touchdown. Boaz (2-1) equalized with a 2-yard run, but Scottsboro secured a 28-21 halftime advantage through Jones’ 3-yard touchdown with just 24 seconds left.

In the second half, Boaz leveled the score at 28 with Pierce’s 22-yard pass to Sage Bennet. Scottsboro responded decisively, reclaiming the lead on Edmondson’s 3-yard run midway through the third quarter.

Childers contributed 102 yards over 18 carries for Boaz, while Hudgins shone with nine receptions for 196 yards.

Scottsboro returns to action next Friday night with a road trip to Arthur Jarvis Stadium to take on the 2-0 Douglas Eagles.  Boaz has the week off before welcoming Douglas to L.F. Corley Field.
