Homewood Improves to 5-0 With 52-0 Victory Over Jackson-Olin
BIRMINGHAM, AL – Will Myers delivered a standout performance during Homewood‘s decisive 52-0 win over Jackson-Olin in Thursday’s Class 6A, Region 5 matchup in Ensley. Demonstrating skill and strategy, the ninth-ranked Patriots improved to a perfect 5-0. The setback slips Jackson-Olin to 0-4 on the season.
Starting strong, Homewood utilized the opening kickoff, advancing to the 44-yard line. Myers then connected with Kylen Newell for a 15-yard touchdown, giving the Patriots an early 7-0 lead. Continuing their momentum, Myers found Kaleb Carson with a 27-yard touchdown pass, extending the visitors lead to 14-0.
Jackson-Olin struggled offensively, surrendering turnovers on consecutive drives recovered by Homewood. The Patriots capitalized, closing the first quarter with a commanding 28-0 lead following Myers’ 13-yard run and a 26-yard touchdown pass to Tomon Felton. Despite a pair of turnover-on-downs by the Mustangs in the second quarter, Homewood couldn’t add to their lead before halftime.
The second half opened with another Jackson-Olin fumble, setting up a 9-yard rushing touchdown by Evan Ausmer, pushing the Homewood advantage to 35-0. Following another turnover on downs by the Mustangs, Homewood managed a 30-yard field goal, bringing the score to 45-0 as the third quarter ended with a 15-yard touchdown connection from Carson to Asher Ketcham.
The final score came courtesy of Mushaba Zulu, who found the end zone on a 10-yard run—his sole carry of the game.
Myers concluded the game with impressive stats, completing 11-of-17 passes for 177 yards and three touchdowns, along with 89 rushing yards on seven carries and a score. Carson was efficient in relief, completing 3-of-4 throws for 22 yards and a touchdown while also catching seven passes for 76 yards and a score. Ausmer led the Patriot rushing attack with 49 yards on nine carries. Felton recorded 86 receiving yards and a touchdown, Newell chipped in a 15-yard touchdown reception.
Jackson-Olin’s Vernon Slaughter completed 9-of-23 passes for 104 yards, while Marquarius Davis contributed 18 passing yards and 66 rushing yards. Aydden Moody led the Mustangs’ ground game with 82 yards on 15 carries, and Frederick Reese added 66 receiving yards on six catches.
Looking ahead, Homewood will travel to Over the Mountain rival Mountain Brook next week in a non-region contest, while Jackson-Olin faces Bessemer City on the road.
