Coosa Christian Dominates Powerhouse Fyffe
GADSDEN, AL – Fifth ranked Coosa Christian earned a historic 29-2 win over the two time defending state champion Fyffe Red Devils Friday night at Phillip Ellen Stadium.
Head coach Mark O’Bryant’s Conquerors limited Fyffe, ranked third in Class 3A, to just six first downs and a mere 38 rushing yards in the contest. Fyffe’s passing game was stymied, with no completions in five tries and three interceptions by Coosa Christian.
A safety ensured Fyffe maintained its notable streak of 326 consecutive games scoring.
For Fyffe, this loss marks the largest point deficit since their 35-7 playoff loss to Lineville in 2003.
J’alan Terry stood out for the Coosa Christian offense with 83 rushing yards and a score. Kanon Wilson also lit up the scoreboard with a touchdown run, while John-David Justus completed 7-of-12 passes for 58 yards, including a touchdown pass to Kylen Johnson.
Looking ahead, Coosa Christian (5-1), last year’s 1A state runner-up, will welcome Cleveland to Gadsden next week. Meanwhile, Fyffe (3-2) will host region foe Sylvania, aiming to regain their footing in the second half of the season.
