John Carroll Catholic Downs Montevallo 27-7

MONTEVALLO, AL – John Carroll Catholic secured their second win of the season with a commanding 27-7 victory over Montevallo Friday night in Shelby County.

The win improves head coach Will Mara’s Cavaliers to 2-4 on the season.  Montevallo’s losing skid grows to four games to stand at 1-4 on the season. 

Leading the charge for the Cavaliers was John Ford, who delivered an impressive performance by rushing 41 times for a total of 214 yards and scoring four touchdowns. Ford put the Cavaliers ahead in the first half with touchdowns on runs of 6, 1, and 21 yards, the last coming just 23 seconds before halftime. He put the game on ice with a final touchdown on a 6-yard run with 6 minutes and 8 seconds remaining in the contest.

Cavaliers quarterback Garrett Barnes, connected on 9-of-15 passes for 80 yards.

For Montevallo, Razareo Conwell gained 72 yards on 14 carries. Quarterback Jordan Ward added 65 rushing yards on 12 carries and went 5-for-12, passing for 15 yards, including a touchdown tossto Brannon Hudson, alongside one interception.

Defensively, Hudson and Derrick Richburg each recorded 10 tackles for the Bulldogs, who now stand at 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the region.

Looking ahead, John Carroll (2-4, 1-2) will host Wenonah (4-1, 1-1) at Pat Sullivan Field next Friday for a Region 5 showdown, while Montevallo hosts the Selma Saints (3-3, 1-2).
