Elba’s Alvin Henderson Becomes the Nation’s Leader in Rushing Yards
BIRMINGHAM, AL – Elba High School senior running back, Alvin Henderson, continues to astound on the football field, leading the nation in rushing yards. In a thrilling 48-34 victory over Goshen, Henderson rolled to 300 rushing yards for the fourth consecutive game, amassing an impressive 344 yards on 26 carries. His standout performance included four touchdowns, with runs of 58, 64, 22, and 32 yards—the latter cementing the win in the game’s final moments.
The Auburn University commit’s season stats are nothing short of remarkable. According to MaxPreps, he has rushed for a national-best 1,958 yards on 152 carries, scoring 33 touchdowns. His total yardage is 536 yards more than Brady Collins of Clearfield, PA, who sits in second place with 1,452 yards.
With a career rushing total of 9,232 yards, Henderson now ranks fourth in the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) history. This achievement places him ahead of former Dale County star Jamarius Henderson, who amassed 9,207 yards between 2010 and 2014. The all-time AHSAA leader is Mac Campbell from Alexandria, with 9,839 yards from 1992 to 1997. Henderson is just 613 yards away from potentially claiming the top spot.
Henderson’s high school career is filled with records. Last season, he rushed for 3,523 yards and scored 68 total touchdowns. He currently holds state records with 165 career rushing touchdowns and 174 overall touchdowns. His average of 13.5 yards per carry tops the AHSAA charts, achieved over 684 carries—573 fewer than Campbell, the state record holder for career rush attempts at 1,157.
