Briarwood Christian Downs No. 7 Corner with Dominant 31-6 Victory
CORNER, AL – The Briarwood Christian Lions pulled off their second consecutive upset over an undefeated and top 10 ranked opponent Friday night with a decisive 31-6 victory over the Corner Yellow Jackets, on the road, in North Jefferson County.
Briarwood set the tone early, rolling to a 17-0 lead at the half. Despite a third-quarter touchdown by Corner narrowing the score to 17-6, Reynolds put the game on ice with a pair of fourth quarter scores.
Reynolds was unstoppable for head coach Matthew Forester’s Lions, rushing for 177 yards and scoring three touchdowns on just 11 carries, including explosive runs of 53, 65, and 13 yards. Charles Dedmond connected with Eli Thompson for a 24-yard touchdown pass, while Garrett Heinemann successfully executed a 43-yard field goal.
Brayden Robertson contributed significantly to the Lions rushing attack with 77 yards on nine attempts. Overall, Briarwood amassed 298 yards on the ground.
The Lions, now standing at 2-5 overall and 1-3 in Region 5, have secured back-to-back victories following their challenging start to the season. This marks a notable turnaround reminiscent of their 1992 campaign, which also saw them begin with an 0-5 record before defeating Corner.
Corner slips to 5-1, 2-1 in region play. The Yellow Jackets struggled offensively, particularly on fourth down, where they were unsuccessful in all seven attempts. Spencer Unruh managed a 2-yard touchdown and led the Yellow Jackets with 114 rushing yards on 27 carries.
Briarwood is set to welcome John Carroll Catholic (2-5, 1-3) to Lions Pride Stadium next week. Meanwhile, Corner will hit the road to face rival Hayden (2-5, 0-3). .
