Chelsea Improves to 6-0 With 35-6 Win over Chilton County
CHELSEA, AL – The Chelsea Hornets cruised a 35-6 win over The Chilton County Tigers in a Class 6A, Region 3 matchup Friday night in north Shelby County.
The victory boosts the Hornets to 6-0 for the first time since 2005, a season that saw them advance to the Class 4A quarterfinals. Chilton County slips to 2-5, 0-4 in region play.
The Hornets overcame a slow start to secure a commanding victory, largely thanks to the explosive performance of running back Chase Stracener. After a stalled initial series, the Hornets’ offense found their rhythm late in the first quarter. Stracener was at the heart of a 12-play, 74-yard drive, carrying the ball six times and finishing with a 6-yard touchdown run to give the Hornets an early 7-0 lead.
Stracener’s impact didn’t stop there. The junior standout recorded three touchdowns throughout the night, including two on the ground and a 34-yard reception early in the third quarter.
The Hornets solidified their lead in the second quarter, adding 21 points to the scoreboard. Stracener scored again with a 3-yard run, followed by quarterback Miller Bauman connecting with CJ Durbin for a spectacular 9-yard one-handed touchdown catch. Aiden Hughes also contributed with a 40-yard touchdown reception, sending the Hornets into halftime with a comfortable 28-0 advantage.
