Wenonah Roars Back to Defeat John Carroll Catholic 30-15
BIRMINGHAM, AL – Despite a challenging first half, the Wenonah Dragons mounted a trilling comeback to defeat the John Carroll Catholic Cavaliers 30-15 on Friday night at Pat Sullivan Field.
The impressive victory boosts Wenonah’s record to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in Class 6A, Region 5 play. Meanwhile, John Carroll’s record slips to 2-5 overall and 1-3 in the region.
Makhi Fowler led the Dragons with a stellar performance, carrying the ball 19 times for 146 yards and scoring two touchdowns, contributing to their third consecutive win.
Jsean Bailey also shined in the win, hauling in a Neil Brown touchdown pass and making a significant defensive play with a 40-yard interception return for another score.
The Cavaliers threatened late, marching inside the Dragon five yard line before a string of penalties stalled the comeback attempt.
Looking ahead, Wenonah will host the Carver Rams (3-1, 3-0) at Bell-Culpepper Stadium next Friday night. Meanwhile, John Carroll will head to north Shelby County to face the surging Briarwood Christian Lions (2-5, 1-3).
