Sixth Ranked Hoover Downs Tuscaloosa County 56-6

NORTHPORT, AL – The Hoover Bucs, ranked sixth in Class 7A, overpowered the Tuscaloosa County Wildcats 56-6 by rattling off 56 unanswered points on Friday night in Northport.

The commanding victory elevates Hoover’s record to 6-2 overall, 5-0 in region play, keeping them in strong contention for the Class 7A, Region 3 title. On the other hand, the Wildcats remain winless at 0-7.

Under the guidance of first-year head coach Chip English, the Bucs amassed an impressive 528 yards of total offense. 

Their upcoming challenge is a significant road game next Friday against the third-ranked Thompson Warriors in Alabaster.

The Wildcats’ lone score came early, when Kamorri Jackson sprinted 74 yards into the end zone on the first play from scrimmage. A missed extra point attempt left the score at 6-0. Hoover quickly responded with a 66-yard touchdown connection between quarterback Mac Beason and receiver Demarion Gardner. Matthew Diabes’ successful point after pushed the visitors ahead 7-6 and ignited their offensive surge.

Beason further contributed with two more touchdown passes—a 19-yarder to Reggie Jackson late in the first quarter and a 2-yard toss to Christopher Warren just before the half. Beason showcased his dual-threat ability with a 47-yard sprint that set up Warren’s score. Beason finished the night connecting on 12-of-15 passes for 220 yards, three touchdowns, and added 73 rushing yards, despite two interceptions.

Hoover’s defense was relentless, securing numerous tackles for loss throughout the game.

In the second half, Hoover extended their lead with 35 more points. JR Mosely started the third quarter with a 16-yard touchdown run, followed by Jacorrey Hayes’ 6-yard score and Jona Winston’s 17-yard direct-snap touchdown, ending the third quarter at 42-6. Trey Sanders capitalized on a blocked punt with a 30-yard return for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter. AJ Allen capped the scoring with a 10-yard touchdown run midway through the final stanza.

Looking ahead, Hoover’s next game is a critical matchup at powerhouse Thompson, where both teams share a 6-2, 5-0 record, with the region title on the line. Meanwhile, Tuscaloosa County will visit Thompson Reynolds Stadium to face the Vestavia Hills Rebels, who hold a 3-4, 3-2 record.
