Blaze Neely Scores Four Touchdowns to Lead Mortimer Jordan Past Jackson-Olin 46-20

KIMBERLY, AL – The Mortimer Jordan Blue Devils secured their second consecutive victory with a commanding win over the Jackson-Olin Mustangs, 46-20, Thursday night at Jimmie Trotter Stadium. The victory improved Heath Lauderdale’s Blue Devils to 3-6 overall, 3-3 in Class 6A, Region 5 play, while the Mustangs slipped to 1-8, 1-5 in the region.

The game began with a bang as Mortimer Jordan running back Jacob Cawley scored the first touchdown from four yards out. Riley Walker’s successful point after put the Blue Devils up 7-0 one minute into the contest, set up by a significant Blaze Neely pass to Daunte Williams.

Jackson-Olin responded with a 17-yard touchdown pass, narrowing the gap to 7-6 after a failed two-point conversion attempt. However, Micah Gatson extended Mortimer Jordan’s lead to 13-6 with a nine-yard touchdown run.

The Blue Devils continued to pull away as Neely connected with Tanner Rice for another touchdown. Just before halftime, Neely found Cawley for a touchdown, giving the Devils a 26-6 advantage.

After the break, the Blue Devils continued their dominance. Neely threw a one-yard touchdown pass to Kason Reno, increasing the lead to 32-6. On the ensuing kickoff, Caden Boyd recovered a Mustangs fumble, positioning Mortimer Jordan at Jackson-Olin’s 18-yard line. Neely capitalized with a seven-yard pass to Levi Madrid, extending the lead to 39-6.

Daunte Williams further tilted the game in the Blue Devils’ favor by intercepting a pass at the Mustangs’ three-yard line. Despite a turnover created by Jackson-Olin’s Simeon Rice, who ran a fumble back for a score, Mortimer Jordan retained control. Parker Reno’s impressive 33-yard run punctuated the Blue Devils’ scoring, pushing the lead to 46-14.

Jackson-Olin added a late touchdown, putting the game on ice  at 46-20.

The two metro area programs will closeout their 2024 campaigns next Friday night with, Mortimer Jordan hosting  the formidable Hartselle Tigers (7-1, 5-0) at Jimmie Trotter Stadium, while Jackson-Olin welcomes the Central-Tuscaloosa Falcons (4-4, 2-3) to Ensley.
