Briarwood Christian Wins Fifth Straight, Takes Down McAdory 55-35

BIRMINGHAM, AL – Briarwood Christian ended their football season on a high note, securing their fifth consecutive victory by defeating the Class 6A McAdory Yellow Jackets (6-3) 55-35 Friday night at Lion’s Pride Stadium. 

After dropping their first five contests, coach Matthew Forester’s Lions roared back in the second half of the season notching wins over top ten ranked Corner and Leeds and outsourcing their last five opponents 188-88.  The potent Lions offense punctuated their 2024 campaign putting up 50 points in each of their last two matchups.  

After trailing 7-0 at the end of the first quarter, Briarwood roared back during the second period with three consecutive touchdowns, roaring to a 28-14 lead at the half.

The Lions dominated the ground game, racking up an impressive 323 rushing yards on 50 attempts. Leading the charge was senior Luke Reynolds, who amassed 206 yards on 33 carries and scored five touchdowns.  Will Clark ignited Briarwood’s scoring with an 8-yard interception return, equalizing McAdory’s initial 7-0 lead.

Lions quarterback Brayden Robertson completed his only pass attempt and shined in the ground game carrying the ball 10 times for 94 yards. Charles Dedmon completed 6-of-10 passes for 65 yards, including a 20-yard touchdown pass to Dane Whitehead, who finished with 2 receptions for 42 yards.

For McAdory, Derrion Davis led the rushing efforts with 73 yards on 10 carries. Signal caller Justin Patton completed 6-of-16 passes for 82 yards. Michael Barnes added a pair of scores carrying the ball 7 times for 48 yards. 

The Lions season comes to a close at 5-5. McAdory, will kickoff the AHSAA Class 6A postseason next Friday night welcoming the Wetumpka Indians (7-3) to McCalla.
