Mobile Submits Bid to Host AHSAA Super 7 State Football Championships

MOBILE, AL – The City of Mobile and Hancock Whitney Stadium are now contenders to host future AHSAA Super 7 football championships.

According to AL.com, the city officially submitted its bid last week.

Since 2009, the Super 7 has alternated between Auburn’s Jordan-Hare Stadium and Alabama’s Bryant-Denny Stadium. Birmingham’s Protective Stadium joined the rotation in 2021 and will host the championship event this December.

In June, the AHSAA, along with the cities of Tuscaloosa, Auburn, and Opelika, agreed to remove Jordan-Hare and Bryant-Denny stadiums from the rotation due to the potential of hosting college football playoff games.

If selected, Mobile would host the Super 7 at The University of South Alabama’s Hancock Whitney Stadium. Birmingham and Montgomery are also expected to express interest in hosting the games, either permanently or on a rotating basis.

Hancock Whitney Stadium, which was completed in 2020, has a seating capacity of 25,450.  In addition to playing host to the University of South Alabama Jaguars the facility also hosts the AHSAA North-South All-Star game every December and the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic on a bi-annual basis.
