Cherokee County Advances to Class 4A Semifinals with 21-14 Win Over Brooks

KILLEN, AL – Head Coach Jacob Kelley’s Cherokee County Warriros, secured their 11th consecutive victory on Friday night by defeating the Brooks Lions 21-14 in the Class 4A quarterfinals, on the road, at E.D. Redding Stadium. 

With the win, the Warriors improved to 12-1 and earned a spot in the Class 4A semifinals. Despite a strong second-half comeback attempt by the Lions, Cherokee County held firm to clinch the hard fought victory. 

The Warriors built an early lead, heading into halftime up 14-0 thanks to touchdowns by Tristan Brown and Keyshawn Thomas. Thomas struck again in the third quarter, extending Cherokee County’s lead to 21-0. However, Brooks pushed back with a 68-yard touchdown pass from Garrett Bouroughs to Cash Crumpton, closing the gap to 21-7 late in the third quarter.

The Lions made it a one-score game with Bouroughs connecting with Crumpton again on a 2-yard touchdown pass with 4:00 left in the contest. The Warriors sealed their win by recovering Brooks’ onside kick attempt, ultimately running out the clock. 

Brooks wrapped up their season at 10-3, while Cherokee County moves on to face the undefeated West Morgan Rebels (13-0) in the semifinals next Friday at Johnson Field. The winner will advance to the Super 7 Championships.
