Pike Road Rolls into 6A Semifinals with Thrilling 11-8 Victory Over Hueytown
PIKE ROAD, AL – The Pike Road Patriots (10-3) secured their spot in the AHSAA Class 6A semifinals with a dramatic 11-8 win over the Hueytown Golden Gophers on Friday night in Central Alabama. The win extended head coach Granger Shook’s squad’s winning streak to seven games.
With the game tied at 8-8, Conner Hall delivered a clutch 32-yard field goal as time expired, sending Pike Road to the next round where they will host the undefeated Saraland Spartans.
Pike Road’s defense came up big late in the fourth quarter, stopping Hueytown in a stalemate game. A critical 22-yard run by Patrick Carter set the Patriots up for the game-winning field goal.
The Patriots initially took control in the first half, entering halftime with an 8-0 lead. Gunnar Gibbs connected with Levi Kelly on a 48-yard touchdown pass, followed by Jordan Holmes successfully converting the 2-point attempt.

Hueytown battled back in the third quarter, tying the game on Jabron Ellington’s 2-yard touchdown run and a 2-point conversion.
Gibbs completed 5-of-11 passes for 90 yards, including a touchdown. Ja’Michael Jones carried the ball 17 times, racking up 82 rushing yards to lead the Patriots’ ground game.
Hueytown concluded their season with a 9-4 record. Meanwhile, the Patriots prepare to host the Saraland Spartans (12-0) next Friday night at Pike Road Stadium for a highly anticipated Class 6A semifinal showdown. Saraland advanced after defeating the previously unbeaten Spain Park Jaguars in their quarterfinal matchup.
