Thompson Secures Spot in AHSAA Super 7 Championships with 31-7 Win Over Enterprise

ALABASTER, AL – The Thompson Warriors are heading to the AHSAA Super 7 State Championships for the seventh straight year after a commanding 31-7 victory over the Enterprise Wildcats on Friday night in Alabaster.

Head coach Mark Freeman’s Warriors will square off against reigning state champion Central-Phenix City in a rematch of the 2023 state title game. Central-Phenix City advanced after defeating Hoover 17-7 in their semifinal matchup. The championship game is scheduled for Wednesday, December 4, at 7:00 PM at Birmingham’s Protective Stadium. This will be the third time since 2018 that the two teams have meet in the Super 7. Thompson previously secured championship victories over Central in 2019 and 2021, while Central triumphed in 2018 and 2023.

Enterprise’s season comes to a close at 8-4, marking their deepest playoff run since 1993.

Game Recap

The first quarter remained scoreless as defenses on both sides held strong. Thompson’s offense came alive early in the second quarter when quarterback Trent Seaborn connected with Darion Moseley on a crossing route, resulting in a 60-yard gain and a first-and-goal opportunity. Although the Warriors were unable to punch it in for a touchdown, kicker John Alan McGuire delivered a field goal to give Thompson a 3-0 advantage.

Following a series of punts by both teams, Thompson seized an opportunity late in the second quarter. After pinning Enterprise deep in their own territory, defensive standout Cam Pritchett forced a strip sack in the end zone, and Trent Cheatom recovered the fumble for a touchdown. The defensive play extended Thompson’s lead to 10-0, which they carried into halftime.

The Warriors continued to dominate after the break. R.J. Evans capped a methodical Thompson drive with a short touchdown run, making it 17-0. However, Enterprise fired back immediately by returning the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown, narrowing the gap to 17-7.

The Thompson offense responded with another impressive drive, culminating in a 12-yard touchdown pass from Seaborn to Moseley on third-and-goal. Late in the game, Auburn commit Anquon Fegans intercepted a Wildcats pass, setting up one final blow. The Warriors capitalized on Fegans’ play with a long drive that ended in another touchdown connection between Seaborn and Moseley, putting the game on ice at 31-7.
