Central-Phenix City Girls Crowned 2024 National High School Flag Football Champions
BIRMINGHAM, AL – Central-Phenix City High School added another accolade to its historic season on Friday, securing the title of 2024 National High School Flag Football Champions in the final USA Today rankings. This recognition comes just two days after the team clinched the AHSAA Class 6A/7A state girls’ flag football championship.
The Lady Red Devils, led by head coach Mitchell Holt, completed a perfect 19-0 season. They secured their No. 1 national ranking after opening the year in the top spot and maintaining it throughout the season. On Wednesday, Central dominated Spain Park with a decisive 55-7 victory in the state finals at Protective Stadium. Spain Park, who finished the season ranked No. 19 in USA Today’s final poll, put up a strong effort but couldn’t overcome Central’s powerful offense and defense.
Montgomery Catholic, another standout team from Alabama, also made waves in the national rankings. After winning the AHSAA Class 1A/5A state championship earlier in the week, Montgomery Catholic landed at No. 22 in USA Today’s Top 25 poll, further showcasing the strength of Alabama’s flag football programs.
Central-Phenix City’s undefeated season, capped by back-to-back championships, cements their position as a powerhouse in girls’ flag football, both in the state and across the nation.
