Jacksonville Christian’s Noah Lee Secures AHSAA Hoops Spotlight with a Historic 34 Rebounds

MONTGOMERY, AL – Jacksonville Christian junior Noah Lee, standing at 6-foot-3 and recognized as the nation’s leading high school rebounder this season, has cemented his place in the AHSAA record book with a standout performance.

On Thursday night, Lee grabbed a jaw-dropping 34 rebounds in a 64-50 Class 1A, Area 12 victory over Gaylesville, marking a career high and the second-highest single-game rebounding total in AHSAA boys’ basketball history. With the win, Jacksonville Christian, coached by Tommy Miller, improved their season record to 11-3.

Lee’s 34 rebounds placed him behind Chuck Person of Brantley High School, who holds the all-time AHSAA single-game record with 39 rebounds in a 1981 win over Kinston. Notably, Lee surpassed the previous second-place mark of 31 rebounds, a record jointly held by Anthony Brown of Midfield and Eddy Norris of Sand Rock. Brown hit the mark in a 2019 victory over Fultondale (80-58), while Norris matched it back in 1982 in a win over Cedar Bluff (59-47).

Girls’ Records Highlight Rebounding Milestones

For AHSAA girls’ basketball, the single-game rebound record sits at 39—a feat achieved by Kylie Black of Speake High during a 2009 matchup against R.A. Hubbard. The runner-up is Maida Harris of Childersburg, who tallied 38 rebounds in a win over B.B. Comer in 2000. Three players have reached 32 rebounds to share the third-place spot, including Nyeashi Thomas of Georgiana (2023), Toyonda Peoples of Satsuma (2004), and Shamika Culpepper of Sylacauga (1995). Culpepper’s record once held the top spot for girls’ basketball.

Lee and Gannaway Dominate

Lee not only excelled on the boards but also contributed 23 points in the Thunder’s win over Gaylesville. His teammate Jesse Gannaway was equally impressive, tallying 27 points, 14 rebounds, four assists, and two steals to secure the win.

Rival Spotlight Performance

Lee’s incredible rebounding performance narrowly edged out Washington County guard Bailey Henry for the weekly spotlight honors. Henry turned heads by sinking six 3-pointers in the second quarter of Washington County’s 80-66 Class 2A, Area 1 victory over St. Luke’s Episcopal. His six treys tied the state record for most threes in a single quarter, a record also held by Cole Millican of Plainview (2021) and Hayden’s Carson Purkey (2024). Henry finished the game with 21 points, including seven 3-pointers in the first half.

With performances like these, AHSAA athletes continue to make history and set benchmarks for future generations. Stay tuned for more record-breaking highlights from Alabama’s basketball courts.
