Thompson, Vestavia Hills, UMS-Wright and Elberta Advance in AHSAA Boys Bowling Finals
VESTAVIA HILLS, AL – Elberta High School continued their dominant undefeated streak (16-0) with two stellar wins on Monday, earning a spot in the Class 1A/5A Winner’s Bracket Finals at the AHSAA South Regional Bowling Championships held at Vestavia Bowl.
Elberta opened their campaign with a commanding 1,410-1,203 victory over Marbury. Their opponent for Tuesday’s finals, UMS-Wright (14-0), also maintained perfection, taking down Hale County (7-10) with a 1,345-1,102 win.
The two unbeaten squads are set to clash on Tuesday at 1 p.m. to determine the No. 1 seed for the AHSAA State Bowling Championships, which will take place next week at Bowlero Bowling Arena in Mobile. The losing team will still secure either the No. 2 or No. 3 seed in a format that features a double-elimination structure, making its debut this year.
Thompson, Vestavia Hills Lead the Way in 6A/7A Action
On the Class 6A/7A side, top teams Thompson (14-3) and Vestavia Hills (26-1) delivered standout performances to book their places in Tuesday’s Winner’s Bracket Finals.
Vestavia Hills, led by an impressive 246 game from Carson Gentry, rolled past Baker and Dothan with team scores of 1,529 and 1,590 pins, respectively. Gentry’s two-game series of 466 was the best among 6A/7A boys. Not far behind, Joshua Davis of Mary Montgomery scored a 236 in consolation play against Spanish Fort, finishing with a 444 series to claim second place in his division.
Thompson’s Warriors proved equally dominant, dispatching Mary Montgomery 1,481-1,342 before advancing past Stanhope Elmore with a 1,547-1,226 win—a commanding 321-pin lead.
Individual Top Performers
Beauregard’s Carson Davis emerged as Monday’s standout in Class 1A/5A, putting up a two-game series-high of 415 and a top single-game score of 226. UMS-Wright’s Matthew Pope and Beauregard’s Garrett Pope tied for second with 391 series scores.
Meanwhile, Vestavia Hills’ Carson Gentry’s 246 game took the top spot for Class 6A/7A, followed closely by Joshua Davis’s 236 effort for Mary Montgomery.
Girls’ Action Set for Tuesday Morning
The South Regional Championships will wrap up on Tuesday with an action-packed schedule. The girls’ divisions will take center stage in the morning, while the boys’ Winner’s Bracket Finals will close out the day.
The top four teams in each division will advance to next week’s AHSAA State Bowling Championships in Mobile. Teams in the North Regional Bowling Championships will square off on Wednesday and Thursday at Trussville’s Spare Time Bowling Center.
